The way we tell time is confusing and makes no sense! Here are the top reasons why we should rearrange the numbers on our clocks and change the confusing way we tell time:

Why do we begin the day with the number 12 when it’s the number 1 that signifies a new beginning? We should begin the day with 1 and end the day with 12. Also, why should a day start in the middle of the night rather than dawn? A new day should begin at the crack of dawn, not in the middle of the night. We should begin the day with 1 and we should also put the number 1 at the bottom of the clock so that “1 ND” (ND = New Day) is the first hour of the new day, as shown above.

1 ND is placed at the bottom of the clock, instead the top right, to signify the sun rising from the horizon to start the day. The hour hand then traverses around the clock during the day to symbolize the sun’s arc across the sky, ending at 1PD (“1 Post Day”) to begin the evening. This new clock is an homage to the heavens! Our new midday would then be 7 ND (6 hours after daybreak – see clock picture). Six hours after that, we’d have sunset at 1 PD (Post Day), which starts the night, and our new midnight would be at 7 PD, 6 after dayend.

We’d replace the terms AM and PM which are Latin for midday and midnight as they’re inappropriate for our new time keeping. Instead, as mentioned above, we’d have ND and PD to mean “new day” and “post day,” as our new clock would be divided into day and night, not midday and midnight! The rise and fall of the hands of the clock would also symbolically follow the rise and fall of the sun during the day and the moon at night. This honors the cosmos and is a physical representation of the heavens! 

We can also add the 24 hour numbers around the outside of the clock’s numbers 1-12 to keep 24 hour military time, or switch to that entirely. I think that is easier than the AM/PM/ND/PD system.

AFTERNOON = 7 ND – 1 PD ☀️

EVENING = 1 PD – 1 ND 🌙

24 HOUR MILITARY TIME:

DAYTIME = 1 – 13 ☀️

NIGHTTIME = 13 – 1🌙

MORNING = 1 – 7 🌅

AFTERNOON = 7 – 13 ☀️

EVENING = 13 – 1 🌙
